DSS rescues abducted five-year-old in Kano, arrests suspect

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano have rescued a five-year-old boy, Muhammad Haruna, who was kidnapped in the state.

Security sources said the child was taken to Danzaki Village in Minjibir Local Government Area, where the operation was carried out on the evening of February 12, 2026.

According to officials, the kidnappers demanded N15 million from the boy’s family as ransom.

An operational report stated that the DSS swung into action after receiving a formal complaint.

“The rescue operation took place at about 7:40 pm after we received a report that the boy had been kidnapped,” The Nation quoted a source.

The DSS tactical team tracked the suspects and carried out what was described as a coordinated operation, leading to the safe rescue of the child.

During the operation, a 20-year-old suspect identified as Aminu Mukhtar was arrested. He was reportedly caught while negotiating the ransom payment with the boy’s father over the phone.

Security sources said the suspect confessed during initial questioning.

“He admitted that he abducted the child to collect ransom,” the source added.

Officials confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and that investigations are ongoing.

The rescued boy has been placed under protective care as authorities complete the necessary procedures related to the case.
