Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has told his successor, Siminalayi Fubara that there is no sign he would succeed as governor.
Wike, who addressed a large crowd of his supporters in the state on Saturday, said the governor has surrounded himself with people who do not mean well for the state.
According to him, those were same individuals who wanted the position he gave to Fubara at all cost but he turned them down.
Wike mocked Fubara, saying the governor was already 2-0 down, alluding to the Supreme Court ruling that mandated him to re-present the 2025 budget to the Martin Amaewhule-led 27 lawmakers and reconduct the local government polls in the state.
“You [Fubara] surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State.’
“They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice. Do you think you will succeed?
“They will give bad advice, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come.”

Peter Obi’s unannounced visit to Bauchi unsettles Obidients Movement
The recent visit of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to Bauchi State without prior consultation with the local Obidients’ Movement has unsettled members of the group.
Chairman of the ObiDatti Coalition in Bauchi State, Elder Abel Musa, in an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Monday, noted that the ‘oversight’ undermines the collective efforts of the Movement before, during and after the 2023 elections, as well as their ongoing initiatives aimed at improving Nigeria.
According to him, such actions risk discouraging a movement that has emerged in response to critical issues, including maladministration, insecurity, infrastructure deficits, and the rising cost of living.
He also noted that the claim of Obi’s visit being purely private is misleading, as it was broadcast live on social media and covered by mainstream media, including a question-and-answer session.
“Feeling sidelined during the visit is unfortunate and provocative for our members, “Musa stated.
He however commended the maturity of all coordinators and stakeholders for calming any frayed nerves and reinforcing the belief that a New Nigeria is possible.
He appealed to all Obidients to remain focused and consistent in upholding their values and enduring sacrifices.
Musa also urged Peter Obi and his team to reconsider their approach and involve the Obidient Movement in future activities across various states, stating that such collaboration is vital to rekindling the enthusiasm that seems to be waning due to recent actions and inactions.
Recall that Peter Obi was in Bauchi a few days ago for a closed-door discussion with Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed.
The two political leaders indicated they are seeking mutual grounds on how to navigate the 2027 General elections.
