The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to brief President John Dramani Mahama on the progress of the ongoing efforts to bring lasting peace to Bawku.
President Mahama tasked the Asantehene to spearhead the renewed mediation drive, a move widely viewed as the most promising attempt in years to tackle the long-running tensions between the Kusaasi and Mamprusi communities.
A significant session held on 1 December 2025 saw representatives of both factions sit together before the Asantehene—an important breakthrough since the start of the talks.
Following the meeting, excitement among supporters of the two sides briefly led to a confrontation outside the Manhyia Palace, requiring swift action from security officers to restore order.
The parties involved are now awaiting formal direction from the Manhyia Palace on the next phase of the peace initiative.
