National President of the Afenifere Youth Council Eniola Olajuni has been released after 12 days in kidnappers’ den.
Olajuni confirmed this himself in a short clip that was posted on X.
“I have been released,” he said while being driven in a car.
“I was released in Ibilo, Edo State. I was released this evening.”
Olajuni was kidnapped on Monday, 17 February 2025, on his way to Abuja for a meeting.
His abductors demanded N100 million and two tricycles as ransom for his release.
On Wednesday, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, ordered the deployment of the Intelligence Response Team, IRT, to secure Olajuni’s safe release.
Before then, a video went viral showing Olajuni at gunpoint, pleading for Nigerians to come to his aid and raise funds for his release.

Rivers crisis: Youth group rejects Supreme Court ruling, calls for review
A group, Ethnic Youth Leaders, has rejected in its entirety the ruling of the Supreme Court, which dismissed the judgment of the Court of Appeal on withholding the state’s allocation and ordered the reinstatement of the Martins Amaewhule-led sacked lawmakers.
The representatives of youths across the six geopolitical zones of the country said they wondered why the apex court delivered such a judgment, which amounts to depriving the people of Rivers State of their economic and political rights to receive what is due to them from the federation account.
In a statement issued on Saturday by their zonal coordinators, led by Tochukwu Oha, the youth leaders declared that the judgment was politically motivated. They argued that it was purely political and not legal, stating that the highest court in the land should not have encouraged illegality.
According to them, the judgment was anti-people, against democracy, and contrary to the principles of federalism. They called for its review by relevant authorities to save the judiciary from descending into doldrums.
“We were all taken aback today when the unthinkable happened in our country, no thanks to the Supreme Court. The apex court, in a very curious miscarriage of justice, restored the ruling of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which stopped the Central Bank of Nigeria from further releasing monthly financial allocations to the Rivers State government.
“This was against the sound judgment of the three-member panel of the Appeal Court, presided over by Justice Hamman Barka, which held that the Federal High Court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the suit seeking to seize Rivers State’s allocation.
“The appellate court had equally ordered that the mere listing of federal agencies does not confer unrestricted jurisdiction on the Federal High Court and that the subject matter, which is the appropriation issue of a state, should not have been entertained.
“While all Nigerians of thought and good conscience believed that this was the right thing and that the Supreme Court would uphold the decision of the Appeal Court, it did otherwise. Instead, it favored the Wike-induced High Court decision and went ahead to order the reinstatement of lawmakers who lost their seats after they jumped ship from the party that brought them into the State Assembly, even while the matter is still subject to litigation.
“This is unacceptable. As ethnic youth leaders, we consider this an affront to the people of Rivers State because their welfare and security—which is the primary aim of government—have been trampled upon by the same judiciary that is touted as the hope of the common man.
“We call on the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, the National Judicial Council, NJC, and the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, to review the judgment so that the people of Rivers can enjoy what is due to them from the federation account.”

Borno NNPP chieftain challenges gov’t over shopping mall demolition
Hon. Attom Magira, the 2023 Borno Central Senatorial Candidate for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has initiated legal action against the Borno State Government following the demolition of his multi-million naira shopping complex in Maiduguri.
The property, a four-story commercial shopping complex and multi-purpose hall located on Sir Kashim Ibrahim Road, opposite the state low-cost housing estate, was demolished earlier this week.
Through his legal representative, Human Rights Activist Hamza N. Dantani Esq of Kayode Ajulo & Co. Castle of Law, Magira expressed his grievances in a press statement on Saturday.
He emphasized that, as a law-abiding citizen, he sought judicial intervention by filing a case at the Borno State High Court (Alhaji M. Attom Magira v. Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board; Suit No. BOHC/MG/CV/8/2025) to prevent the unlawful demolition of his property until the court determines if any town planning regulations were violated.
Magira alleges that the demolition was orchestrated under the direct orders of Governor Babagana Zulum’s administration.
While the state government has not officially disclosed reasons for the demolition, it has previously conducted similar actions against ‘illegal’ structures and residential buildings in the public interest.
Dantani criticized the demolition, stating, “This act is not just an attack on one man’s investment but a blatant disregard for the rule of law, judicial authority, and the economic future of Borno State.”
He described the action as politically motivated, reflecting the current administration’s impunity.
According to Dantani, Magira legally owns the property, having been granted a statutory right of occupancy and obtaining all necessary permits from the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board (BOSUPDB).
He asserted that all required fees were paid, and development permit no. BSUPDB/DC/2194 was issued over the statutory right of occupancy no. BO/86138. Dantani noted that during the construction phase, BOSUPDB did not raise any concerns regarding town planning violations.
According to his lawyer, beyond personal investment, Magira’s project provided employment opportunities for local residents during construction and was set to offer commercial spaces to boost local businesses.
He added that in a state affected by Boko Haram insurgency, insecurity, and economic challenges, such investments should be protected rather than targeted for political reasons.

Abia State governor, Dr Alex Otti, has presented 24 Roxettes Utility Pick-Up vans to the 24 members of the Abia State House of Assembly to aid their oversight functions.
Governor Otti presented the vans’ keys to Speaker of the House Emmanuel Emeruwa. He said the gesture fulfilled his promise to the members to equip them with operational vehicles.
The Governor noted that the vans were locally produced in Abia and said he has a policy of patronising indigenous manufacturers to improve their quality.
He disclosed that the manufacturer, an indigene of the state from Umunneochi LGA, is nearing completion of his factory in Obuaku, Ukwa West LGA, as the road leading to it is nearing completion.
Governor Otti said that his administration is committed to enhancing the quality of indigenous products to encourage local production and patronage, adding that efforts are in top gear to instil confidence in indigenous manufacturers regarding their products.
Responding on behalf of his colleagues, the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Augustine Meregini, thanked the governor for providing the second set of vehicles to the lawmakers.
