Abia State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Boundary and Security Matters to liaise with the Deputy Governor, Ikechuckwu Emetu who is the Chairman of the State’s Boundary Committee, in engaging Akwa Ibom State government concerning the recent boundary dispute between Ariam Usaka community of Abia State and Obot Akara people of Akwa Ibom State.

During the latest clash on February 2, a man from Ariam Usaka community, Ikwuano LGA was killed by alleged invaders from Obot Akara, Akwa Ibom State.

Reacting to the Matter of Urgent Public Importance brought by the member representing Ikwuano constituency, Isienyi Boniface, Abia State House of Assembly expressed worry over the ugly development and urged its Committee on Boundary and Security Matters to collaborate with Abia State Deputy Governor in achieving a lasting peace in the disputed area.

Isienyi had while informing the House about the killing of his constituent, said that several property were destroyed during the crises.

In a related development, Abia State House of Assembly has directed its Committee on Boundary and Security Matters to investigate a petition brought by Amaegbu Community Development Association of Ikenyi autonomous community, Lekwesi, Umunnochi LGA of Abia State.

The community had in the petition, alerted the Abia State House of Assembly about the alleged encroachment on their lands by a private mining company, which the community said takes off from Amate Isiagu in Ivo LGA of Ebonyi State.

The petition, which said that the activities of the mining company from Ebonyi State was creating tension in the Abia community, was read by Mr Mathias Ume who represents Umunnochi constituency in the State House of Assembly.

The House further advised the State government to encourage mechanized farming to boost food production.

Widow of late governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, Betty, has disclosed that cancer made her stop eating pounded yam, eba, Amala and Akpu.

Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu said eliminating starchy foods from her diet helped her survive breast cancer after she was diagnosed 27 years ago.

She disclosed this in a social media post to mark this year’s World Cancer Day.

She posted: “If stopping Coke and other soft drinks, as well as swallowing eba, pounded yam, amala, and akpu, would prolong my life-knowing that starchy foods and sugar fuel the growth of cancer-so be it. That was exactly what I did.”

The former Ondo First Lady’s husband passed away from prostate cancer on December 23, 2023,

Mrs Akeredolu disclosed that her positive mindset played a major role in her surviving cancer.

She said her decision to seek medical care at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, instead of relying on spiritual healers, was crucial.

The bereaved families of the fire incident that killed 72 persons in the Grenfell Tower have been told the building would be demolished.

Angela Rayner, the deputy prime minister and housing secretary, is said to have met relatives and survivors on Wednesday evening and “announced the decision that the tower will have to be carefully deconstructed”, according to a spokesperson for Grenfell Next of Kin.

Grenfell Tower is a derelict 24-storey residential tower block in North Kensington in London, England.

The tower which was completed in 1974 as part of the first phase of the Lancaster West Estate, was mostly destroyed in a severe fire on 14 June 2017.

There were concerns over how many loved ones were spoken to before the new decision was taken.

Many of the affected families had kicked against demolition of the structure, insisting that criminal prosecutions should be completed over the failings that led to the fire.

It is almost a decade now and they are still waiting justice which has been described as “unbearable” by some.

“We’ve said this to every secretary of state for housing since the very beginning: consult the bereaved and survivors meaningfully before reaching a decision on the tower,” Grenfell United, which represents some of the survivors and bereaved families of the disaster, said on Wednesday.

“Angela Rayner could not give a reason for her decision to demolish the tower.”

A spokesperson for Angela Rayner said on Wednesday, “The priority for the deputy prime minister is to meet with and write to the bereaved, survivors and the immediate community to let them know her decision on the future of the Grenfell Tower.

“This is a deeply personal matter for all those affected, and the deputy prime minister is committed to keeping their voice at the heart of this.”

The final report of the Grenfell Tower inquiry, published in September, concluded the disaster was the result of “decades of failure” by the government and the construction industry to act on the dangers of flammable materials on high-rise buildings.

The west London tower block was covered in combustible products because of the “systematic dishonesty” of firms that made and sold the cladding and insulation, the inquiry chair, Sir Martin Moore-Bick, said.

The “simple truth” was that all the deaths were avoidable and that those who lived in the tower were “badly failed” by authorities, Moore-Bick said. “In most cases through incompetence but, in some cases, through dishonesty and greed,” he added.

In May 2024, prosecutors and police said investigators would need until the end of 2025 to complete their inquiry.

The Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency under President Donald Trump’s administration has indicated a move to solve safety concerns in the country’s aviation sector regulated by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Musk disclosed this in a statement on his official X account on Wednesday.

Recall that on January 29 this year, hundreds of persons perished as an American Airlines regional jet collided with a U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter and plunged into the Potomac River near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington, D.C. No one survived the crash.

The development had sparked serious safety concerns.

Reacting to the unfortunate midair collision, Trump blamed diversity requirements at the Federal Aviation Administration.

He said, “I have common sense, OK, and unfortunately a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people to do this.”

“For some jobs—and not only this but air traffic controllers—they have to be at the highest level of genius”.

Meanwhile, in an update to the development, Musk vowed that with the support of President Trump, his team at DOGE will aid in making rapid safety upgrades to the US air traffic control system.

“With the support of President @realDonaldTrump, the @DOGE team will aim to make rapid safety upgrades to the air traffic control system.

“Just a few days ago, the FAA’s primary aircraft safety notification system failed for several hours,” he stated on X on Wednesday.

Outside the US aviation sector, Musk’s team at DOGE had recently vowed to tackle corruption in US healthcare agencies.

DOGE also gained access to the US Treasury Department amid claims of corruption.

A federal judge on Wednesday blocked the implementation of United States of America President Donald Trump’s executive order targeted at restricting birthright citizenship in the United States.

The ruling indefinitely halts one of Trump’s controversial policies, which was set to take effect nationwide on February 19.

According to The New York Times, District Judge Deborah Boardman stated that denying birthright citizenship would cause irreparable harm.

Judge Boardman emphasized that Trump’s order conflicts with the plain language of the 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship to anyone born in the country.

“The denial of the precious right to citizenship will cause irreparable harm.

“No court in the country has ever endorsed the president’s interpretation,” Boardman said, adding “This court will not be the first,” as reported by The New York Times.

The latest ruling follows a similar decision by a federal judge in Washington state, who issued a 14-day stay on the order in January.

Recall that Judge John Coughenour described the measure as “blatantly unconstitutional,” prompting Trump to announce his intention to appeal.

The legal challenge centres on the 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, which grants citizenship to all individuals born in the United States.

DAILY POST reports that Trump’s executive order put forward the argument that those in the country illegally or on temporary visas were not subject to US jurisdiction and therefore not entitled to citizenship.

United States President Donald Trump has signed the “No Men in Women’s Sports” executive order, banning biological men out of women’s sports.

DAILY POST earlier reported on Tuesday that Trump will sign an executive order barring transgender athletes from women’s sports.

The President signed the executive order on Wednesday on National Girls and Women in Sports Day. The event celebrates female athletes in women’s sports and those who are committed to providing equal access to sports for all females.

“This doesn’t have to be long. It’s all about common sense,” Trump said before signing the order, adding that “women’s sports will be only for women.”
“The war on women’s sports is over,” Trump declared.

Mark Trammell, the Executive Director at the Center for American Liberty, said Trump’s executive order is a major victory for women and girls.

Trammel said it reaffirmed the fundamental truth that fairness in sports depends on biological reality.

Speaking earlier in a briefing before Trump signed the executive order, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said that it “upholds the promise of Title IX.”

She stated that the order ends the betrayal of women and girls by the previous administration.
