At least, seven people were killed and several others injured in two separate attacks in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday.
In the first incident, insurgents attacked farmers on their farmlands, killing five people and leaving others critically wounded. The attack occurred 15 kilometers from Damboa town along the Damboa-Maiduguri highway.
A source within the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) told newsmen that troops recovered the bodies of the victims in the evening after survivors alerted security forces.
“They were found in a pool of blood, having been brutally massacred with cutlasses and axes,” the source said.
In a separate attack, a military convoy struck a landmine near Sabon-Gari in Damboa LGA, killing two CJTF members and injuring several others. The convoy was on a mission to repair a bridge destroyed by insurgents, which had disrupted commercial activities and security operations along the Damboa-Biu highway in recent months.
“Two CJTF members died instantly, while at least five others sustained serious injuries. They are currently receiving treatment at General Hospital, Damboa,” an eyewitness reported.
The victims are expected to be buried on Thursday morning in accordance with Islamic rites.
