Kano bans waste dumping at new court road
The Kano State Government has announced a ban on waste dumping at the New Court Road site.
The state cited health and environmental risks associated with improper waste disposal.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahiru Muhammad Hashim, disclosed this on Tuesday during an inspection visit to the site.
He emphasized the urgent need to curtail the spread of diseases in the area and its surroundings.
“The government is deeply concerned about the environmental and health implications of indiscriminate waste disposal at this site,” Dr. Hashim stated.
“If left unchecked, it poses significant risks to residents and passersby.
The commissioner ordered the immediate evacuation of accumulated waste in the area.
He urged residents to comply with the new directive and dispose of their refuse at the designated site in Sallari.
“For their own good, we are appealing to people in this area to desist from dumping waste here. Instead, they should make use of the Sallari site, which has been designated for proper waste disposal.”
Dr. Hashim reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling environmental challenges and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
He also highlighted Kano State’s initiatives aimed at fostering cleaner and healthier communities.

Court adjourns cybercrime case against traditional leader in Rivers
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has adjourned the case involving retired Justice Adolphus Enebeli and a traditional leader in Rivers State, Eze Cyprian Amadi-Worenwu to March 20, 2025, for a report on the settlement process.
Amadi-Worenwu is facing trial on a one-count charge related to cybercrime.
He is alleged to have, on March 28, 2023, transmitted a message to one Sunday Gift-Chinenem, threatening, harassing, and placing retired Justice Enebeli in fear for his life.
According to the charge, Amadi-Worenwu allegedly threatened that he knew where the retired judge’s son worked and that Enebeli would not live to enjoy his retirement.
The charge further stated that he vowed to kill Justice Enebeli in retaliation for a judgment delivered against him in a chieftaincy dispute involving Christopher Wonodi and others on March 20, 2023.
The offense is said to be in violation of Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
The traditional leader was initially remanded at the Port Harcourt Correctional Centre before being granted bail after pleading not guilty.
When the case resumed for a settlement report, both the prosecution and defense counsels informed the court that they had yet to finalize the terms of the settlement and requested additional time.
Presiding Judge, Justice Emmanuel Obele, warned that if both parties failed to reach an agreement by the next hearing, the court would proceed with the trial.
The case was subsequently adjourned to March 20, 2025.
