The Ghana Police Service, has introduced a 24-hour policing strategy aimed at supporting the government’s flagship 24-hour economy initiative.
The announcement was made during the passing-out parade of newly trained police recruits at the National Police Training School in Accra on July 4,2025.
Speaking at the event, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, emphasized that the new security initiative is essential to ensuring that Ghanaians can go about their economic and social activities safely, regardless of the time of day.
He described the policy as, “critical to the success of a modern, round-the-clock economy.”
A key component of the strategy is the establishment of the 24-Hour Economy Security Secretariat at the Police Headquarters.
“The unit will coordinate security operations and personnel deployment to ensure maximum visibility and readiness, particularly during night-time hours when criminal activity tends to increase”, he noted.
A total of 1,194 recruits successfully passed out at the ceremony after completing rigorous training in police science, law, public order management, and disaster response, among other subjects. They were 633 females and 561 males.
The recruits are expected to reinforce both general and specialized operational units across the country.
Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, praised the Inspector General’s leadership, stating that the Police Administration has responded swiftly to challenges and positioned the Service to meet the demands of modern-day law enforcement.
He further noted that the public’s trust in the Police Service will depend not only on visibility and presence, but on how fairly and respectfully the law is enforced.
“A good police-public relationship is key to gathering intelligence and fighting crime effectively,” he said.
